One of the most exciting and more sought after degrees these days is in the area of computer forensics and digital forensics. It is said that most all white collar crimes committed these days leaved some digital trail. As white collar fraud continues to grow and spread, so does the need for effective investigations in to these crimes. Computers, cell phones, PDA's and other digital equipment are almost always involved in financial fraud and identity theft crimes. Typically, a student majoring in Computer Forensics will study such diverse areas as the law, the process of investigating digital equipment, computer programming and technology, and network technology. Additionally, students need to know how to define, diagnose, and discuss the aspects and activities of white collar crime. Finally, students must be able to adapt the technical knowledge that they have gained to the actual research and diagnosis of these crimes.

Students who complete degrees in the field of computer forensics might become security network analysts, computer forensic specialists, information technology investigators, counterintelligence analysts, or (with accounting classes added), forensic accountants. Students in computer forensics should be able to utilize operating systems, programming techniques, networking knowledge and database programming and administration.
